Queen of the May!

A special set of invited guests gathered in the Chapel this week to celebrate the Catholic tradition of a May Crowning.

A May Crowning is held during the month of May.  It is usually a procession which ends with the crowning a statue of Our Lady with a garland or crown of flowers to honour Mary as “the Queen of Heaven”. Those gathered, who all shared the name Mary, Marie or Maria,  prayed a ‘Hail Mary’ before celebrating with some cake!

Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,

and at the hour of our death.

Our Lady, Queen of Heaven…pray for us!
