Rome - Manchester, hotel, itinerary, Maurizio

The day started early with a drive to Manchester Airport to catch a flight to The Eternal City as the reconnaissance

trip for the Y11 visit for under way. Getting through Security was fine thanks in no small part to Mrs Delaney 's excellent briefing on Friday.  I had all my liquids in the appropriate see through bag and my electronic devices fully charged.

The flight was fine with a little turbulence and it was a breeze exiting the airport.  It was less of a breeze working out how to get to the city centre but eventually I asked the right person the right question and 1.5 euros got me to the Termini station via a bus and metro train.

I put on my maps app and headed for the hotel.  As promised I went into the first church I came across and said prayers for our Y11 and Y13 students as exams got underway.  It was St Mary and the Angels - an absolutely huge building.

After a bit of faffing with the map app, the hotel came into view and I checked in, dumped my bag and headed off to explore.

I was glad to see a mini - market shop just opposite from which to buy bottled water.

I  went back to the Termini station  to  find out how to buy 38 tickets at a time.  There are loads of machines to  use but few of them were working!  I'll find out alternatives tomorrow.

Back to the hotel, I found the room was great! Glad to report wif I was easy to logon to and the aircon easy to control.  TV had 3 channels in English, showing Little House on the Prairie!  But that's no problem as we're not intending to do much TV watching at all.

As evening came, I met up with Maurizio, our go-to person with the agency here. We went to the restaurant  we'll be using. It was brilliant. Well used by local people, the kitchen is open so you can see the chefs  making fresh pasta and pizza.

Maurizio and I had a lovely meal - absolutely fantastic - and we went over our itinerary in fine detail, refining it to minimise travelling time  and maximise opportunities.  I am really happy with the latest draft of this timetable of activities.

It turned out to be a long day buttery worthwhile.  Tomorrow morning  morning I  will sample the hotel breakfast then head off for the Vatican, Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's.
