Holy Week and Easter Service

Thank you to all those involved in our services today – all who shared their gifts through singing, reading, carrying symbols of Holy week and technical support.

Using clips from animated Lego, we followed the story of Holy Week and were reminded of the hope that we all have in the risen Jesus at Easter!

It was also lovely to have Fr Stephen Pritchard with us to give us a final blessing.

Wishing you all a very happy and holy Easter season!

Lent is a time of preparation for the highlight in the Christian calendar.

It is a time to admit where we have gone wrong and made mistakes.

It is a time to renew our commitment to God.

Palm Sunday.

Holy Week begins when Jesus enters the city of Jerusalem on a donkey.

He is greeted like a hero.

Maundy Thursday

Jesus shares a final meal with his friends.

Jesus washes the feet of his disciples to show them they should not be afraid to lower themselves and serve others.

Jesus tells them that he gives them a new rule to live by…

“love one another as I have loved you”

Jesus goes to the Garden of Gethsemane to pray.

Judas strikes a deal with the Chief Priests and agrees to lead them to Jesus for 30 pieces of silver.

Judas arrives at the Garden with the guards and turns Jesus over to them.

Good Friday

Jesus is taken to Pontius Pilate.

Jesus is condemned to die in a painful and humiliating way – crucifixion.

Jesus is made to carry his own cross and is crucified with two thieves, one on either side.

At the third hour, Jesus breathes his last and dies.

Easter Saturday

Jesus has died.

He lies in a tomb.

His friends are afraid and go into hiding, feeling alone, scared and confused

In secret, they mourn the loss of Jesus.

Easter Sunday

3 days after his crucifixion, Jesus rises from the tomb!

Alleluia!
