International Day for Sign Languages
Saturday 23rd September is International Day for Sign Languages. All week, videos have been played around school to encourage students to learn how to say simple words and phrases such as ‘hello, how are you?’ ‘I’m fine’, ‘please’ and ‘thank you’.
To mark the occasion, on Friday a small group of students gave a rendition of the song ‘Nothing’s Impossible’ written by our Chaplain.
As they sang, they also signed the words of the song with British Sign Language.
BSL is the most common form of sign language in the UK. It was recognised as a language in its own right in 2003 and legally as an official language of Britain in 2022. To learn more about Sign Language you can visit https://rnid.org.uk/information-and-support/deaf-awareness/british-sign-language/
