Thanksgiving in The U.S.A.

Date: Nov 22, 2018 08:30:00
Details:

The fourth Thursday in every November is Thanksgiving in the U.S.A.

It dates back to 1621 when early European settlers in America gave thanks for a successful harvest.  The previous year, crops had failed and half the population starved to death.   However, the indigenous people took pity on the newcomers and showed them how to cultivate their crops.  After this first successful harvest the immigrant pilgrims invited the local people to a feast to give thanks!

The occasion eventually was celebrated across all of the states!

Here's a video recounting the history of Thanksgiving!  (3 mins 24 secs)

A Prayer of Thanksgiving

For the blessing of life, for the gift of each new day,

Lord of Abundance, we thank you.

For the food we eat each day,

Lord of Abundance, we thank you.

For the home we share with family,

Lord of Abundance, we thank you.

For the faith that renews us,

Lord of Abundance, we thank you.

For the hope that we have for the human family,

Lord of Abundance, we thank you.

For the charity that we are privileged to offer,

Lord of Abundance, we thank you.

For the work for justice that we are called to do,

Lord of Abundance, we thank you.

For all the graces we have received,

Lord of Abundance, we thank you.

For all the good we have enjoyed,

Lord of Abundance, we thank you.
