CONVERSATION STARTER 1

In a South African fee paying school, Zulaikha Patel, a 13 year old girl has stood against what is seen as a racist hairstyle policy in the school which seems to suggest that black hairstyles are not acceptable.  What do you think?

CONVERSATION STARTER 2

Here are some black British female firsts!  Which dates are most surprising?  What barriers remain?

BLACK WOMEN IN BRITAIN

Here's a gallery in Google Arts and Culture of influential Black Women in Britain.

It's fantastic.

CONVERSATION STARTER 3

A former refugee who only learned to read and write at the age of 14 - she won't amount to much, will she?

A PRAYER FOR BLACK HISTORY MONTH

God of Creation, whose son, Jesus prayed "that they all may be one", send your Spirit to help us unite.

Give us the willingness to embrace people of all hues with their stories of struggle and triumph.

Help us to recognise especially at this time, the contributions made to this global village by your children of African descent.

We pray this in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. AMEN.
