Music and Liturgy lesson - Overwhelm musos stuff
A splendid day which started with the real thrill of leading a lesson on Music and Worship with a tremendous group of Year 9 students.  We looked at three types of music which are used in Catholic worship:  Plainchant, Traditional Hymns, Contemporary Music.
There are plenty of subdivisions within these categories, of course, but what all worship music should be trying to do is to help people get closer to God.  Music in church is not performance.  It is the musicians' job to serve others in setting moods and choosing music which will enhance prayer and a sense of the presence of God.  To quote an old song:  "It ain't what you do, it's the way that you do it!"

Anyway, Year 9 were great so thanks to them!

At lunchtime, it was time to put what we'd been exploring into practice with the fabulous Overwhelm musicians - April, Kelsey and Kim who are coming on apace with their skills!   We worked on We are Children of God and by the end were really rocking it out!
