Welcome back - Rome 2019 + Rome 2018

Good to be back to see everyone and hear many tales of half-term exploits.

 Yesterday was the Feast of the Body and Blood of Christ and the gospel featured Mark's account of the Last Supper!  It's a great reminder to us of the importance of sharing food - so let's get back on the Foodbank effort and make a difference!

 

There was a bit of chasing today to catch up with various people about the two Rome trips - getting a bit confused at times separating them out in my head!  Anyway, it was good to firm up the number of people going on the 2019 trip in the Year of the Saint marking 50 years since Julie Billiart became St. Julie!  We were massively oversubscribed and I'm so sorry to have disappointed those not getting on the trip.

The Rome 2018 trip is much more immediate as we are now less than a month away from our adventures over there.  Final tweaks to the itinerary are coming in but this is how it's looking at the moment:

04:30 Depart from St. Julie’s for Manchester Airport 

07:15 Plane departs

11:10 Arrive in Rome, clear immigration, collect bags.  Have lunch at the airport then get on coach.

Coach to catacombs of San Callisto (St Callixtus) – guided tour

 

Arrive at hotel 16:15  approximately to check in and for safety briefing

17:30 Orientation walk in vicinity of hotel

18:00 – Evening meal at out for evening meal at local restaurant Ristorante la Nuova Stella, Via Daniele Manin

19:30 - back to Hotel for briefing re-arrangements for next day

21:00 – settle in rooms (We will all be tired!)

 

 

Tuesday, 3rd July, 2018  

8:00  Breakfast at hotel

Morning -  3 hour guided walking tour of Rome 9:00-12:00

 

Lunch in vicinity of Colosseum (Via di San Giovanna in Laterano) 

 Afternoon  - Colosseum and Roman Forum 14:15

 

Evening – meal out and walk to one of Rome’s oldest ice cream parlours (gelateria) - Fassi’s.

Wednesday, 4th July, 2018

7:30 Breakfast at hotel

Morning -  Walk to Termini Station, take Metro (linea A) to Ottaviano Station – nearest to Vatican.

Vatican Museum including Sistine Chapel.   After Sistine Chapel transfer to St. Peter’s Basilica.

Option of climbing to top of Dome (551 steps – 8 euros)

Lunch in vicinity of Vatican (possibility of some independent time)

 

Afternoon – Riverside walk to Castell St Angello, Piazza Del Popolo, Borghese Gardens, Spanish Steps (possibility of some independent time)

 

Evening – meal out and Rome at night – re-visiting favourite places - packing.

Thursday, 5th July, 2018

07:30 Breakfast at hotel

08:30 Leave hotel for airport

12:10 Depart Rome

14:15 Arrive Manchester Airport

15:00 Pick up by coach and return to St. Julie’s for 16:00.
